Bus Stop

by William Inge

Oct. 5-9, 2006

Directed by B. Michael Quale

During a howling snowstorm, a busload of weary travelers must hole up at a roadside diner until morning. A nightclub singer named Cherie has been kidnapped by a young cowboy who is ready to sling her over his shoulder and carry her, kicking and screaming, down the aisle. Overnight, the café owner and the bus driver explore a long-overdue friendship, a middle-aged scholar faces his past, and a small-town girl gets her first taste of romance. “William Inge should be a great comfort to all of us. His classic Bus Stop brings to the theatre a kind of warm-hearted compassion, creative vigor, freshness of approach and appreciation of average humanity that can be wonderfully touching and stimulation.” – The New York Post
